Under the direction of the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure, the Senior Systems and Network Administrator will lead development, implementation and coordination of plans for the evolution of the CGU infrastructure both on premise and in cloud; maintain infrastructure for deployed server base including ERP systems, and look to evolving technologies to improve enterprise based services provided by the office of information technology. Perform a variety of duties related to administration of university’s network infrastructure.
This is an exempt position with regular hours set for 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Hours/Days may vary due to University/Department needs. The position reports to the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure.
Leads planning, development, and coordination of operations and projects for current and future server and network infrastructure.
Anticipates impact of growth and changes in operations, and recommends design and/or process changes.
Participates in disaster recovery/business continuity planning including backup and recovery procedures as well as information security strengthening activities.
Installs, supports and maintains network operating system; inclusive of various versions of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Office 365 and VMware.
Installs, supports and maintains network infrastructure systems; inclusive of switches, wireless controllers, access points and firewalls.
Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
Serves as project liaison - implementations or upgrades, acts as the focal point for communications between the project and the team.
Facilitates coordination and a thorough understanding of requirements, attends project meetings, creates written meeting notes, creates appropriate ticketing, and documentation for all projects and workflows.
Maintains policies and standard procedures to increase system uptime.
Identifies training needs and keeps current on application technologies.
Monitors security alerts and ensures that appropriate patches are applied in an automated and timely fashion; works with developers to patch or upgrade custom code for security compliance.
Documents and maintains system standards; researches and recommends innovative approaches for system administration tasks.
Creates and maintains standard OS installation images for virtualization templates.
Monitors application performance on servers.
Evaluates and manages appropriate software and hardware allocations to achieve an optimum performance level.
Performs capacity planning for projecting future growth.
In collaboration with project teams, builds, rebuilds, and/or updates servers and configures hardware and virtual machines (VM), applications, peripherals, services, networking, storage.
Leads troubleshooting of application, operating system(s) server hardware, network communications and storage issues within infrastructure.
Provides highest tier of support; leads service incident and problem resolution efforts to support entrusted applications/products.
Provides user support on deployed servers.
Consults on best practices to users.
Provides data and metrics to support sizing requirements and performance tuning decisions.
Participate in related decision processes with managers.
Manages projects ensuring timelines and deliverables are met and meet expectations.
Oversees consultants and contractors on any current and future infrastructure related projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Develop new system implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the network by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software.
Manage the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire suppression system
Ensure high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical network resources
Develop procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use
Develop tools, procedures, and training sessions for Office of Information Technology staff to assist with work
Stay current with technological developments in systems administration technology and develops ways to take advantage of new technologies, specifically with Cloud based technologies

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with courses specializing in computer and network operation, installation, maintenance, and repair. Minimum five years of experience in hardware/software/network support preferably in a higher education network environment.
