The Vanguard University Jesse Miranda Center Directoris committed to building greater capacity in emerging and existing Latino leaders for the purpose of transforming the church, community, and campus through education, leadership, and research. The director will work closely with University staff, faculty, and administrators to support Hispanic student enrollment, retention and graduation goals. This position reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Provides leadership and oversight of the Vanguard University Jesse Miranda Center.
Responsible for fiscal oversight of the Vanguard University Jesse Miranda Center (including fundraising, donor relations, budgeting, and grants acquisition).
Contributes to the University's strategic plan to educate, equip, and empower Hispanic student leaders to engage and serve the church, community, and global marketplace.
Engages in the discovery of applied research, development through education and training, dissemination of articles and other resources for implementing best practices and creative strategies for the improvement of Hispanic student success, retention and graduation.
Maintains a database of Hispanic leaders in the region and facilitates workshops, symposia, webinars, speaker series, and networking events.
Collaborates in the development and implementation of retention programs based on current theories and proven constructs that are targeted toward Hispanic students.
Works closely with University departments and personnel, including (but not limited to): Academic Deans, Associate Dean for Student Success, Institutional Research, UG Admissions, Grad Admissions, PS Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Accounting Operations, Student Life, Career Services, Academic Resource Center, Disability Services, Writing Center, Counseling Center, Spiritual Formation, and Commuter Life to facilitate implementation of Hispanic student retention programs across campus.
Works with the Associate Dean for Student Success, University Registrar, and Institutional Research to research, analyze, and disaggregate data on Hispanic student retention, attrition, graduation, and matriculation rates, course withdrawal rates, GPA analysis, and any additional information that will assist in assessment and long-term planning.
Develops innovative programming to increase the recruitment and enrollment of Hispanic students including (but not limited to): Spanish Language Family Relations and dual enrollment.
Develops, implements, and evaluates a residential program designed to prepare first time freshmen.
Works closely with the Director in the Office of University Grants, Research, and Sponsored Programs to identify and pursue grants in support of the center and its programs.
Provides academic advising, personal guidance, and mentoring to program students.
Provides oversight of Spanish Language Family Relations including Family College Experience and Family Orientation programs.
Is a member of the University Student Success and Retention committee, the University Diversity Committee, and participates on other committees assigned.
Participates in the spiritual growth and development of Hispanic students and families at Vanguard.
Performs other duties as assigned based on the needs of the university.
Strong analytical abilities and experience with basic statistics and mathematical calculations to determine retention rates, disaggregate and identify retention trends, and infer conclusions from statistical evaluations.
Two or more years’ experience in leading, controlling, organizing and planning for an organization or program.
Computer proficiency (intermediate level and up) in MS Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Power Point.
Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary professionalism in dealing with students, faculty, and staff.
Excellent writing, editing, proof-reading and organizational skills.
Capacity to manage multiple tasks with a high level of acumen in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and develop innovative programming.
Ability to develop meaningful relationships and provide inspirational leadership with a diverse population of students and families.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse constituency.
