 University of California Irvine LABORATORY ASSISTANT I Updated: Dec 14, 2020 Location: UC Irvine Campus Job Type: Department: ANATOMY AND NEUROBIOLOGY Job Opening ID: 13666 Reports To: Assistant Professor HCOP Working Title: Laboratory Assistant I Department: Anatomy and Neurobiology Bargaining Unit: TX FLSA: Non-Exempt Payroll Job Code: 009605 Job Location: UCI Campus- Irvine Percent of Time: 100% Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F Employee Class: Career Position Summary: The Lab Assistant is responsible for mouse behavioral experiments and maintaining animal colonies with little to no supervision in the Igarashi laboratory. Additionally, the lab assistant will also construct in vivo electrophysiological recording devices and perform genotyping on a routine basis. Only under direct supervision, the lab assistant may perform procedures in support of ongoing research activities. Compensation Range: Hourly Rate: $17.85-$19.19 Department Website: https://www.anatomy.uci.edu/ Required: Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Ability to follow oral and written instructions Effective communication skills, verbal and written Attention to detail Excellent organization and planning skills Ability to take accurate and detailed laboratory records Ability to work selflessly in a team environment Preferred: Laboratory experience. Excellent computer skills, including usage of MS office. Ability to perform basic calculations (percentages, ratios, etc) Special Conditions Required: Must have reliable transportation. May need to go off-campus for certain duties. Must be able to work flexible hours with work occasionally extending into the evenings and possibly weekends. Final candidate subject to background check.
