The essential duties and responsibilities of the Regional Safety Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

Personnel:

  1. Assist with the hiring, training, and/or management Safety staffing for assigned region.
  2. Coaches and supports others in fostering our safety culture.
  3. Support site supervision with the preparation of project safety plans.
  4. Support site supervision with the management of security, including monitoring break-ins, thefts, etc.
  5. Instruct all levels of management in regards to their responsibilities for the safety of employees region.

Safety:

  1. Implement, monitor and update Company's Corporate Safety Policies. 
  2. Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction industry standards as well as client's safety program.
  3. Conducts pre-operational risk assessments on new sites.  Design, propose and implement risk mitigation measures within the region.
  4. Proactively identify conditions or actions that may cause injury, illness or property damage and ensure implementation.
  5. Generate and distribute reports.
  6. Coach all regional personnel to improve safety conditions and performance.
  7. Bring serious situations to the immediate attention of senior management and the Director, Safety & Risk Control.
  8. Ensures that within the region; operation employees, contractors, site visitors, etc. receive safety onboarding.
  9. Review, prepare and conduct an analysis of leading and lagging indicators to drive safety improvement.
  10. Develop, update and implement of emergency procedures.
  11. Act as the local area Company representative for OSHA, EPA and other state and federal regulatory agencies and address any issues that may arise.
  12. Conduct accident, incident & near miss investigations as they arise in the field.  Review and analyze to prepare lessons learned to be shared throughout region and Company.  Implement any change procedures as necessary.
  13. Interacts and communicates with various levels of employees throughout the Company and industry professionals (insurance companies, brokers, agents, medical providers, etc.).
  14. Interface with the General Contractor and others to increase trust, confidence, and support for the safety program.
  15. Support return to work programs.
  16. Coordinate with Risk Management team members on workers' compensation claims.

Training:

  1. Provide training and coaching to local safety staff to ensure technical competence and leadership development across region.
  2. Coordinate and deliver training as required.
  3. Conduct and/or schedule resources to conduct specific classes in Safety training (i.e., scissor lift, scaffold use, fall protection, etc.) to provide employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards to perform their job safely and effectively.

Other Duties:

  1. Attend seminars/educational training programs, as required.
  2. Coordinate, communicate, and assess vendors/new vendors for corporate use.
  3. Promote safety objectives and integrate safety into the culture of our organization.
  4. Assists in the completion of OSHA surveys and publication of OSHA 300 log for region.
  5. Assists in providing information on HSE and RFP submissions.
  6. Monitor safety committee meetings progress at the jobsite.

Education:  High school diploma required.  Bachelor's degree in Occupational/Environmental Health & Safety or Construction Management highly preferred.  CHST designation. OSHA 30 Hour safety training, fall protection competency, scaffold (erection & user) competency, First Aid/CPR, AED and Bloodborne Pathogen Certified Trainer.  Forklift and aerial & scissor lift safety training.  Root cause analysis/accident investigation training, safety leadership training and risk assessment/audit compliance training.

Experience: Required 5-7 years safety or OHS/EHS experience.  Experience in the construction industry preferred.

Skills: Well developed analytic and conceptual skills. Proven leadership capabilities and ability to work independently.  Knowledge of Federal and OSHA regulations and other government compliance regulations.  Valid Driver's License and successful completion of DMV Pull Notice.  Flexibility to be on-call, work unusual hours, and on weekends.  High attention to detail, aptitude for learning new things and must be able to work under pressure.

Physical: Includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking; use of hands, arms, legs, and feet.  Must be able to see and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.  Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Communication:  Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.  Ability to communicate effectively and positively with customers, vendors and employees.  Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Computer: Proficient in MS office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
