TEA is hiring a middle school and high school educator who can deliver on real-world learning in the math, computer science, and makerspace classroom for the 21-22 school year.

Primary Roles

***As TEAms are selected, these roles and responsibilities will be discussed to ensure all items are covered and individual strengths are considered as far as who is responsible for overseeing it.

Our Crew Leader is responsible for delivering character/social emotional development and mentorship. To do so, the Crew Leader develops and implements social-emotional learning strategies, helps students develop executive functioning, critical thinking and non-cognitive skills, creates and implements service projects, mentors students for academic and social-emotional development, helps students set individualized goals, and communicates with parents regarding each student’s overall progress.

Our Coach is responsible for delivering on academics and adventure. To do so, the coach plans and facilitates real world projects that bring academic and adventure standards to life. As an integral part of a coordinated team, coaches assess student work and performance, plan for and track students towards national standards mastery, coordinate appropriate student groupings to maximize differentiation, collaborate across subject areas, participate in project, assessment, fieldwork tuning protocols, plan and execute fieldwork that integrates TEA’s pillars, test, iterate and adapt our tools and technologies and communicate with parents regarding student progress, projects, and fieldwork.

Our Facilitator is the team leader for the grade-level program team. To do so, the facilitator gathers data, makes decisions and advises grade level teams to help them deliver on the school’s beliefs. This includes: project standards integration, advice on adventure, constructive adversity, and character integration into projects and fieldwork, ensuring all projects are meeting the project planning checklist criteria, advising on team teaching strategies within projects, serving as the lead for behavior and first aid, advising on/overseeing appropriate pedagogical practices, acting as the primary point person for parent issues, providing an extra layer of student and parent support, advice on student groupings and progress, facilitate cross-curricular tuning protocols and professional learning opportunities, and being lead manager for parent and student needs that need to be elevated beyond the crew leader.

Is proactive in planning logistics, such as scheduling, fieldwork, experts

Thrives when building real-world, authentic learning experiences that connect to real life to build intrinsic motivation, enduring understanding, and real-world skills for students.
Has a high level of self-motivation and follow-through, the tenacity to persevere and the ability to improvise and create quickly and creatively.
Is a lifelong learner, constantly seeking opportunities to develop personally, and to help better others.
Has a strong ability to provide and accept coaching and feedback from peers and school leadership.
Is inspired to push learning outside the traditional four walls of school to work with experts, push kids out of their comfort zone and teach students to grapple with real-world problems.
Has a strong character that is able to professionally connect with students and parents and collaborates effectively as a TEAcher TEAm to develop creative and integrated learning experiences.

Is willing, able, and excited to utilize longitudinal tools provided such as TEArs, GradeBook and project planning documents in order to better support the Lab School
Utilizes exemplary strategies and techniques that meet the needs of individual students, groups, and classes in a highly responsive, student-centered, and inclusive manner.
Understands that the world is not stagnant so education needs to keep growing and changing to prepare students for whatever life throws their way.
Is passionate about changing education in their lifetime for the purpose of inspiring students to make a positive and lasting impact on the world.

Experience

Prior experience in a commensurate field that can be applied to an educational framework. This does not have to be a teaching background but should apply to the content being taught (i.e., film production background can teach film).

Competencies and Qualifications

Successful candidates will show a high level of competency in the following areas:

Show evidence of exemplary strategies and techniques that meet the needs of individual students, groups, and/or classes/groups of students in a highly responsive and inclusive manner.
Have strong, creative and optimistic ideas and implementation strategies for Behavior Management.
Must be able to reflect critically upon professional experiences in order to enhance professional effectiveness, contribute to the development of a learning community, as well as engage in a variety of professional learning activities that promote and/or enhance the development of that learning community.
Participate in curriculum development and/or program teamwork, and provide leadership in the school by assuming a key role in school development processes.
Establish partnerships with students, colleagues, parents, as well as facilitate teamwork within the school community to support student learning.
Show an optimistic attitude toward parent engagement and interaction.

Minimum Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, or a closely related field.

Must be able to present Common Core-based integrated math curriculum for multiple levels ranging from 6th grade through Calculus.

Tahoe Expedition Academy was founded by a group of educators and parents seeking to create an adventure based, experiential learning school for children in the Lake Tahoe region. Our mission is to empower students to reach their full potential by cultivating intellectual growth, character and confidence through engaging academics and outdoor adventures. Our program combines high-level academics, character building and hands on-exploration and adventure. Our school serves students from PreK to High School.
