The Research Technician will support the Chong Research Laboratory in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Caltech, reporting directly to Professor Shasha Chong, and perform basic research related to the development of novel biophysical and biochemical approaches to investigate intrinsically disordered proteins and how they regulate gene transcription under normal and disease conditions. In addition, the individual will help with general lab maintenance and organization.
Help with maintaining laboratory organization, ordering, and cleaning.
Generate various common laboratory reagents (e.g., buffers, bacteria culture plates, competent cells).
Generate protein expression constructs with molecular cloning techniques and test the constructs.
Help with constructing mammalian cell lines and characterizing them by genotyping and western blot.
Help with research in the fields of transcriptional regulation and intrinsically disordered proteins under the supervision of Professor Chong and other group members.
A highly motivated and qualified candidate may develop independent research projects under the supervision of Professor Chong.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in science, with an educational emphasis in chemistry, biology, or related field.
The ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner, to work as part of a team, and to learn new lab skills related to biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and interpersonal skills
Previous lab experience with molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture is strongly preferred.
