The Drug Education Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for providing education and performance feedback to providers and personnel regarding clinical outcomes and medication cost effectiveness at MemorialCare Medical Group and Greater Newport Physicians IPA. This includes but is not limited to providing academic detailing to physicians on how to improve generic prescribing, promote clinically appropriate cost-effective prescribing with the focus of reducing health care cost while improving patient clinical outcomes. The Pharmacist must have the demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Provides training, analytical support, and on-going performance feedback to providers and staff regarding generic/cost initiative outcomes.
Monitor, analyzes and identifies prescribing providers or practices for generic drug opportunities and/or cost-effective alternatives to have one-on-one conversations.
Provides on-going communication to providers and staff regarding generic pipeline, drug cost analysis, and other clinical pharmacy initiatives via presentations, newsletter information and formal utilization review.
Works collaboratively with case managers or other health care personnel in on-going improvement of the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients.
Pharmaceutical and medical knowledge necessary to effectively discuss drug therapy with physicians, pharmacists and clinic staff.
Possess strong working knowledge of pharmacy benefit design.
Support implementation of initiatives for clinical pharmacy services.
Working knowledge of applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations.
Possess strong analytic skills.
