DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Director of Construction Projects Department, the Project Management Specialist (Jr. PM) will assist Senior Project Managers on large projects, while also managing small non-capital and capital projects. They will support on large projects, from the planning and design phase, through the close-out process, including, but not limited to maintaining project documentation and logs, reviewing contract documents and change orders, reviewing project progress and assisting with inspection, drafting and reviewing project schedules, budgets, specifications, estimates/ROMs, etc. The Project Management Specialist will coordinate and delivery small design and construction projects, that include developing programs, ROMs, presentations, professional contracts, construction documents, bids, agency, supervising construction, coordinating required training, and ensuring all required close-out documentation is turned over to the appropriate agency. Types of projects include renovations, new facilities, infrastructure, and site work; with the majority of projects in OSHPD 1 facilities.
The Project Management Specialist will manage project reviews for conformance to regulatory requirements and organizational policies. They will take initiative to make recommendations to modify design and construction documents to incorporate any and all needs of the project. They will provide status reports as directed and ensure regular communication with key project stakeholders. The Project Management Specialist will perform organizational and administrative activities not directly related to projects, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Two (2) years of project engineer or management experience with construction projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of building and construction, design, engineered systems, construction contract administration and California Building Codes.
Demonstrated knowledge of current project and construction costs and with industry standard cost estimating. Must have financial skills to develop and manage project budgets.
Comprehension of California Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OHSPD), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), State Fire Marshal (SFM), and policy requirements for hospital construction.
Ability to work effectively with diverse User groups and departments, and be responsive to their needs. Excellent communication skills that demonstrate you are an effective, courteous, and diplomatic professional and can interact with a highly diverse population.
Outstanding soft skills in problem recognition, avoidance, and issue resolution.
Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
- Experience in developing project scope and ROM.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five (5) years of experience in construction management and/or supervision.
- OSHPD 1 construction experience.
- Experience with construction management software like ProCore and E-Builder.
- Experience working in an academic medical center setting.
- Familiarity with the UCOP Facilities Manual, policies, and procedures.
- Experience with medical imaging modalities.
