ATHLETIC TRAINER
Academic Year Position
Starting Mid-February
General Statement Of Duties
The Athletic Trainer is an exempt salaried position at Nueva School. The duties of the athletic trainer include, but are not limited to, prevention of athletic injuries, recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries, health care administration, and professional development and responsibility as specified in the Domains of the NATA Certified Athletic Trainer. The athletic trainer serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents. The athletic trainer ensures that players participate only when physically able and that any physician instructions are understood and followed. The athletic trainer will coordinate with the Athletic Director to ensure staffing of the athletic training room and coverage for all required events.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exercise supervisory responsibility for student athlete safety and discretion in making meaningful safety and health decisions
- Provide first aid, injury assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention to student athletes.
- Act decisively and prudently in emergency and life-threatening situations
- Provide coverage at home events and practices
- Conduct IMPACT testing, organization, and clearance for all teams
- Develop and implement injury management protocols and emergency action plans
- Construct Emergency action Folders and First aid kits for all teams
- Provide injury reports to coaches and other school personnel and parents on injuries and status of student athletes under treatment
- Maintain all forms, reports, and medical records related to athletic injuries, rehabilitation, and clearance
- Maintain a treatment log
- Provide injury reports to coaches and other school personnel on injuries and status of student athletes with severe injuries.
- Acting as liaison between coaches and athletes in injury matters
- Provide first aid to students, facility, and staff at any given time during school hours if school Nurse is not in office.
- Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room
- Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic
- Training room and maintain an up to date inventory. Provide the Athletic
Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment
- Occasionally travel with teams to away meets, events, and competitions
- Occasionally drive athletes to and/or from practices and events
Additional Responsibilities:
- Oversee the distribution, collection, and inventory of uniforms and equipment
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities, assignments, and roles
- Serve as a site director/representative during assigned home games and post-season contests
- Construct course outline for conditioning classes for Physical Education
- Oversee PE class attendance, organization, and outreach to ensure student earn yearly PE credit
- Coordinate, organize and update PE Canvas courses for all grade levels
- Carry out projects and tasks, and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Athletic Training or related field
- Current NATA BOC Certification
- Maintain current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the Athletic Trainers Board of Certification.
- Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication, and follow through skills
- Post certification experience desired
- Flexible and adaptive
