The Middle School STEM Teacher will partner with the Head of the Middle School to design and implement an engaging, interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum. The ideal candidate for this position will be have extensive experience as a middle school math and science teacher; will be interested in and supportive of bilingual and bicultural education and the quest to train engaged global citizens; will place the social-emotional lives if children at the center of their practice; will prioritize interdisciplinary instruction and team work; will understand how to design a program with rigor and flexibility; and, most of all, they will be excited to help co-author a new chapter in the life of an incredible school.
Specific Responsibilities
- Teach two sections of math
- Collaborate with “Project Teachers” to bring experimentation and scientific thinking into their project classrooms (project teachers teach in Chinese, and most have a humanities background)
- Co-author, coordinate, and implement a well-organized and focused curriculum aligned to Next Generation Science Standards.
- Design assessments that make learning visible; document student
- Teach assigned middle school classes.

- Chaperone students on a 10-14 day trip to Hawaii or Asia each year.

- Must be able to start work in San Francisco around August 1, 2022 (for two months of planning meetings and curriculum development).
- Advise a group of around 10 middle school students and work with them in a daily advisory block (focused on social emotional health and good decision making).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Undergraduate focus on STEM.
- Experience teaching middle school math and science classes.
- Demonstrated success inspiring middle school children.
- Background in curriculum design, ideally including a project-based approach.
- Contagious enthusiasm and charisma; the ability to engage and inspire students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience helping children construct interdisciplinary knowledge.
- Experience in an independent school setting helpful.
- If offered the position you must be able to pass a Livescan background check permitting employment in a school / childcare facility.
