Job Summary

The Owens Valley Radio Observatory is seeking a Site Maintenance Assistant to help with a wide variety of tasks under minimal supervision. In addition to general site and building maintenance, the successful candidate will be expected to work on trenching and antenna installation on the site, coordinating the work in the field under direction of the Site Maintenance Supervisor. This position is ideally suited to someone who likes to work in a small team on a wide variety of tasks both inside and outside and has the initiative to tackle many of the routine maintenance tasks as needed.

Essential Job Duties

Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor:

• Coordinate trenching and antenna assembly work in the field
• Perform general site maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: checking state of buildings, HVAC, lighting, door locks, etc.
• Perform building maintenance including painting, drywall repair, and floor repair
• Carry out basic plumbing repairs
• Assist with maintenance on HVAC, including changing filters and cleaning coils
• Assist with maintenance of vehicles and construction equipment
• Update maintenance logs
• Assist with construction of antennas for new projects
• Assist with maintenance of antennas, as needed
• Relocate materials and equipment using forklift and trucks
• Carry out general site maintenance work including clearing weeds, road patching, general clean up
• Other tasks as assigned

Basic Qualifications

• Ability to work on tasks with minimal instructions,
• Experience with vehicle maintenance (e.g., oil change, greasing),
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks with other crew members, such as trenching or construction of assemblies such as antennas from parts kits,
• Ability to lift heavy objects (70 lb),
• Willingness to work in workshop and outdoors,
• Candidate should have experience in basic electrical and plumbing repairs, carpentry/drywall/painting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fork-lift certification.
