The Idyllwild Arts Academy provides pre-professional training in the arts and a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum to a diverse student body of gifted young artists from all over the world. Idyllwild Arts Academy is an independent arts boarding school for 300 students in grades 9-12 located in the San Jacinto Mountains of southern California.
The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program provides arts instruction and experiences of the highest caliber to a diverse student population of all ages and abilities.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Idyllwild Arts Academy is seeking a full time Fashion instructor and Chair of the Department.
This an opportunity for a motivated educator and expert in fashion to create and innovate a newly forming department. As an Arts Boarding School, our new Chair will have the chance to become part of a vibrant arts community where collaboration, and new ideas are welcome.
Job Description
Stay relevant and maintain connection with higher education, fashion programs, and the changing of the fashion industry
Oversee inventory and needs updating equipment and facilities
Managing department budgets
Serve as in a mentor role to other teachers particularly in regard to
Classroom management and curriculum development
Act as a show runner of fashion shows and events
Align department goals with schoolwide goals, especially in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion
Work with marketing and admissions to attract and recruit students
Work to develop and oversee the Fashion Summer program
Teach classes such as fashion design, fashion construction, textile, fashion illustration, fashion portfolio at varying levels
Knowledge of digital design and illustration
Teaching technical skills to enable design
creativity
At least three years of experience in the fashion industry and in fashion/arts education
MFA is preferred but not required
Experience in facilitating and managing teams
Experience with international communities or students
Desire to work within a high school boarding school

Other Requirements
Ability and desire to work within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, that does not impede on-time arrival during winter months.
Obtain and maintain a valid California Driver License, pass a criminal history background check as required by California Education Code Section 44237, and pass a TB test.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position an incumbent is required to have:
Specific vision abilities include close, distant and color vision perception and the ability to adjust eye focus.
Reaching with the hands and arms and use of hands to manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse;
Must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person, and be able to make public presentations.
Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
Occasionally, incumbent may be required to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse uneven terrain, climb stairs while moving about campus, bend and stoop, conduct tours, show visitors campus facilities, and provide their own transportation for local and remote events.
