The Viterbi Admission and Student Engagement office (VASE) is a large student services unit within the Viterbi School of Engineering providing support to over 9,000 on-campus and online students of all levels (bachelorâs, masterâs and doctoral). The Division of Student Engagement and Leadership Development, within VASE, provides meaningful opportunities to connect with the campus community and to engage in co-curricular programs and activities that enhance the student experience along four success areas â academic, career, social, and wellness.
The Associate Director for Student Organization Engagement is responsible for the management and development of over 60 Viterbi student organizations including design and construction teams and graduate association. This position manages the Viterbi student organization affiliation and funding processes and serves as the primary point of contact to address student organization needs. This includes working in collaboration with USC Campus Activities, Viterbi Advancement, Viterbi Business Affairs and Office of Risk Management. This position reports to the Director of Women in Engineering and Leadership Development.
The ideal candidate must have experience in working with both undergraduate and graduate students; developing support processes for student-initiated groups and projects; demonstrates commitment to DEI and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership, direction and evaluation for all student organization procedures and budgets.
- Oversees the Viterbi Affiliation process for student organizations which determines funding eligibility ensuring access and inclusionary practices
- Manages Viterbi Funding request process, budgets and selection; including the student-led Viterbi Funding Board, SOS Committee, Design & Construction Fund Committee and Viterbi Graduate Student Association funds
- Monitors overall funding protocols and evaluates policies and procedures
- Manages transportation and liability waivers for all student-initiated field trips and activities
- Manages student organization Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) submissions and reporting
- Advises and supports student organization on event planning and University event protocols
- Supports student organization in troubleshooting, conflict mediation and accessing University resources
- Advises student organization on creating corporate sponsorships packets and fund tracking
- Collaborates and coordinates with Viterbi Advancement for the Ignite Campaign and creation of individualized giving links
- Advise and support in student organization marketing and communication
- Hosts information sessions on student organization involvement and coordinates the annual Get Connected! Student Involvement Fair
- Trains and supports student organizationsâ faculty and staff advisors
- Manages communication, website and student organization rosters
Minimum qualifications:
Masterâs degree in higher education/student affairs or combined education with five yearsâ experience. Working knowledge of college student development and budget management. Knowledge of student organizations and general student engagement. Knowledge of student training and supervision. Strong organizational skills and ability to set and meet deadlines.   Excellent problem solving skills.
Preferred qualifications:
â¢Minimum of three years of experience in administering a college programs or services. Student Development/Student Affairs program administration preferred.
