Position description
The Thermal and Electrochemical Energy Laboratory directed by Dr. Po-Ya Abel
Chuang, is looking for self-motivated, creative, enthusiastic and highly qualified postdoctoral scholar experts in electrochemical research. Please note that this may be multiple position hires.
The topics of research include fuel cell, electrolysis, heat and mass transport, flow in porous media, and two-phase heat transfer. (more information at http://teel.ucmerced.edu/).
The successful candidate will have previous training and established track record in experimental and/or simulation study of electrochemical technologies such as SOFC/SOEC, PEM and AEM fuel cell and electrolysis cells. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to stay abreast of recent publications in the field, carry out research independently, implement and develop research ideas and write research articles. The postdoctoral scholar is also expected to assist with mentoring graduate students and undergraduate students who will work on the project, and to be in charge of properly maintaining all equipment in the lab. This is a two-year project with appointments being year-to-year based on the continuation of funding and satisfactory performance.

Qualifications
Applicants must have obtained a PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Highly self-motivated individuals, who have demonstrated the ability to conduct scientific research successfully and work independently.
The candidate should have demonstrable experience in several of the following
areas:
1) novel catalyst material synthesis and evaluation
2) fuel cell or electrolysis cell testing and diagnostics
3) catalyst/ionomer material and ink study
4) Simulation of fuel cell, electrolysis cell and electrochemical devices
