Utility Shop Technician
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the shared services organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges located in Southern California. Today, TCCS is a nationally recognized educational model for academic support, student support and institutional support services to meet the needs of 6,300 students and 2,300 faculty and staff. Some of the more than 30 different services include: campus safety, a central library, health and counseling services, cultural centers, central bookstore, physical plant and facilities support, payroll and accounting, information technology, real estate, risk management and employee benefits.

Job Description:
Purpose of Position:
Working under general supervision the Utility Technician performs a wide variety of general construction and maintenance tasks.
Essential Functions:
The following are the essential duties and responsibilities the incumbent must be able to perform.
1. Perform general maintenance and construction tasks and services.
2. Collect and dispose of trash and other debris.
3. Drive to deliver and pick up materials and supplies from nearby businesses or suppliers.
4. Move, set up and breakdown furniture and equipment for meetings and events. Tasks may require a team-lift.
5. Excavate and back-fill for work such as repair of water, steam, gas, and electric lines.
6. Clean and maintain roofs and roof drains.
7. Keep sumps open and open storm drains and gutters.
8. Repair small breaks in concrete or pavement and pour concrete for other jobs.
9. Set up scaffolding and rigging for high work.
10. Water vacuum flooded areas and clean up after alterations or accidents.
11. Operate equipment assigned to the department.
12. Perform Utility Shop and Central Facilities Services duties as assigned.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Must provide evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or religious accommodation or exemption is requested and granted.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent in a combination of education, training, and additional experience beyond the minimum required.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience demonstrating the ability to apply the knowledge and techniques of the trade.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
a) Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, determine linear measurements, compute areas and volumes of conventional shapes and forms, and compute approximate weight of objects.
b) Ability to work productively and effectively without continuous supervision.
c) Be available for overtime work and to be on-call.
d) Ability to climb ladders, crawl in attics and under buildings, lift and carry heavy equipment, bend, stoop, work from heights, and work in uncomfortable positions.
e) Ability to work under all weather conditions.
f) Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed.
g) Be able to work in a safe manner, follow proper procedures, and comply with Cal/OSHA and OSHA requirements as applicable to work.
h) Fluent English language skills, including ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write.
i) Effective and professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts.
j) Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS.
Other: A valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to TCC's automobile liability insurance provider.
Required Work Hours: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
