La Scuola International School is a private, Preschool - Grade 8 independent school in San Francisco. The school founded its preschool, La Piccola Scuola Italiana, in 2002 and has earned awards and accolades for its work with Reggio Children in Italy as a leading example of the Reggio Emilia pedagogy in North America. Position Overview
La Scuola seeks a Learning Specialist for the 2022-23 academic year to support students in grades K - 8 who will be an integral part of our Student Support Team and report to our Division Heads. The specialist will collaborate closely with teachers, educational specialists, pedagogical leadership and administrative team members who work closely with linguists to ensure we are meeting each student’s individual needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work one-on-one, in pairs, or in small groups with students who have diagnosed learning differences or other diagnoses that impact achievement.
- Address reading, math, and/or writing skills based on information from teachers and/or testing.
- Develop and/or implement specific curriculum, charts, forms, digital tools and games, or other aids to help assigned students learn classroom material in alternate forms.
- Address learning strategies, study skills, developmental issues, executive function systems, social and emotional wellness, and other identified problem areas.
- Convey to teachers and parents pertinent educational recommendations made in the psycho-educational reports of individual students.
- Other duties as noted by the school.

Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Reading and Literacy, School Psychology, or related field of study
- Certificate in Educational Therapy, Special Education, or similar advanced educational background in learning disabilities and differences including ADHD, and emotional disorders is mandatory.
- Four to seven years of experience or training in an independent or charter school environment preferred. Certification in Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and/or Wilson Reading training preferred
- Managerial, program development, and leadership experience necessary.
- Patience and a problem-solving approach to issues.
- Strong working knowledge of special education: the IEP process, 504s, and ISPs.
- Our ideal candidate is an outgoing, well-organized individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting.
- Candidate must be prepared to teach and tutor material at an elementary and middle school immediately.
- Sophistication in understanding learning differences and devising appropriate strategies for accommodating them.
- Work experience at a charter or private school preferred
