Basic Function
Plans, directs, and monitors activities and services of the Facilities Maintenance Department.
Example Of Duties
- Creates schedules and other tracking tools/documents to ensure timely responses and timely support when required/requested from Metro Operations
- Responds to facilities maintenance emergencies
- Assigns and approves service requests received by the department
- Provides updates to Operations Liaison team and other Metro departments on progress and issues on a weekly, as requested, or required basis
- Obtains access and reviews submittals, RFls (Requests for Information), Design Deviations, and other documents, as required, and provides comments/ responses, and/or obtains comments/ responses from applicable Operations personnel by due date(s)
- Manages staffing and equipment requirements for all project testing
- Supports involving M&E (Mechanical and Electrical)/ Wayside and Facilities Maintenance functions
- Develops and implements department goals, policies, and procedures
- Manages and administers major capital programs for Metro and the department
- Manages Revenue Readiness Plan for Mainline and support maintenance facility/yard operations tasks
- Plans, develops, and implements department budget
- Approves department expenditures
- Performs complex technical assignments, including projects, reports, and studies on facilities maintenance subjects
- Represents the department on major operational committees and task forces
- Conducts second-level grievance hearings
- Represents Metro and department in labor relations discussions and labor negotiations
- Plans, directs, motivates, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff
- Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Requirements For Employment
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a two-for-one year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Public Administration, or a related field; Master′s Degree in a related field preferred
Experience
- Five years of relevant management-level experience in facilities maintenance management; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
- 24-hour emergency response
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications (PQs) are used to identify relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as determined by business necessity.
