Job Description
Definition
Under general direction, the Enterprise Risk Manager is responsible for managing, planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating all activities of the Enterprise Risk Management Department of the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA).
Distinguishing Characteristics
This single-position classification is characterized by full managerial responsibility for all activities of the Enterprise Risk Management Department, including Property, Public Liability, and Workers' Compensation claims administration, management of VTA's first party Casualty Property Insurance Program, and oversight of VTA's third party Vendor/Contractor Insurance Program. The Enterprise Risk Manager uses independent judgment in in performing project management activities to protect VTA's assets and minimize costs of losses through the development of risk transfer and risk protection solutions. Duties of this class may include confidential activities relating to employee and management relations.

Minimum Qualifications
Employment Standards
Sufficient training, education, and experience in public or private sector insurance, claims, and safety administration to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in public or business administration or a related field, and substantial and increasingly responsible experience, including supervision of professional staff, performing risk management, insurance, and/or claims management for a public or private sector organization.
An Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation and a California Workers' Compensation Self Insured Administrator Certificate are preferred. Progressive experience in a transit environment or in project construction risk management, including insurance oversight of designers and contractors, is desirable.
