Junior Specialist (McNally Lab 2022)
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for one Junior Specialist in cell and molecular biology to join the lab of Dr. Frank McNally.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Junior Specialist I, Research Duties 95%:
Create DNA constructs, introduce DNA constructs into C. elegans to create new worm strains and analyze embryos from those strains using live imaging techniques as well as fixed immunofluorescence. Carry out genetic crosses that require PCR-based and microscope-based genotyping to create new C. elegans strains. Carry out biochemical experiments related to the project. Review the scientific literature, and in conjunction with the Principle Investigator formulate new hypotheses, design new experiments to test those hypotheses and conduct the newly designed experiments. Engage in, and present their work at, lab and group research meetings including Bay Area Worm Meeting. Prepare figures and assist in writing manuscripts for publication, and for reports for grant proposals.
Help with overall running of the lab including ordering supplies and maintaining lab safety records.
Jr. Specialist I, Service (5%):
Mentor undergraduates in the lab.
SALARY RANGE: Step I - $46,800 or Step II- $49,800 [100% annual], commensurate with qualifications and experience.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Short-term, one- to two-year appointment based on the needs of the lab. Appointments may be made up to 100%.
