Position Summary:
The University of California, Irvine is a growing, dynamic, top-tier research university, the youngest member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), and routinely ranked among the nation's top 10 public universities. The School of Biological Sciences is one of the largest schools at UCI, serving over 5000 undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Biological Sciences Facilities unit oversees the building management and space planning for 8 buildings.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Planning and Administration in the School of Biological Sciences (BioSci), the Director of Facilities is responsible for all aspects of Building and Space Management for approximately 1,000,000 GSF, 25% Biomedical area in School of Medicine and roughly 924,000 ASF of allocated space including Natural Sciences I, Natural Sciences II, McGaugh Hall, Steinhaus Hall, Greenhouse, Biological Sciences III, and the Bonney and Qureshey Research Labs. The Director of Facilities is responsible for the oversight of planning, construction, maintenance and renovation phases of development and construction. Provides information and direction during the design, construction and occupancy of new buildings containing Bio Sci assigned spaces. This includes participation during the design-build Design and Construction services pre-qualification reviews and contractor/architect interviews and presentations. The Director of Facilities maintains an up to date space and equipment inventory and coordinates security control and evacuation for all Bio Sci facilities. Supervises two full time facilities employees in support of daily school facilities operations.

10 years or more of progressive experience in planning, development and construction project management.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Strong skills to facilitate and collaborate with various internal and external constituencies on short- and long -term facilities planning and management. Strong analytical, problem solving, research and report preparation skills to meet regulator, budgetary reporting requirements and to identify patterns and tendencies to formulate logical and objective conclusions and to recognize alternatives. Strong skills in leadership, motivation of staff and team-building. Strong skills in management, regulatory compliance and operations planning. Broad knowledge in the areas of facilities management, construction process and procedures, space planning and allocation, security, fire and safety and emergency preparedness. Strong skills in verbal and written communications. Experience and knowledge to inspect construction in progress (general and specialty structures)and read, sketch and interpret plans and specifications. Service-oriented mindset. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in identifying and effectively coordinating resources to meet program needs.
