Reporting to the VP, Major Capital Construction Projects and working with the Director of Project Delivery, this position is responsible for leading the design and construction process for highly complex Clinical and Technologies systems for the proposed new UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights - a state-of-the-art, 21st-century hospital designed and equipped to provide an unsurpassed level of care for patients. The new hospital will enable UCSF to relocate inpatient care, currently at Moffitt Hospital, by 2030 and meet the state's seismic requirements. The hospital will be a key part of UCSF Health, a growing regional health system that includes UCSF Medical Center, the top-ranked hospital in California and among the top five nationally, according to U.S. News & World Report. The new hospital will be embedded within a campus that includes leading clinicians and scientists focused on translating discoveries into treatments and cures. UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center will be part of a planned broader revitalization of the Parnassus Heights campus that also will modernize facilities supporting our research and education priorities.
The program budget is estimated at this time to be $4.5 Billion with a first patient date in 2023. The complexity of the project cannot be overstated. The new UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights
is an atypical healthcare project requiring intensive coordination of highly complex engineering, technology, and medical equipment systems. Constructability is extremely complex given ongoing patient services and a restricted site with limited construction access.
The position directs project development of design phases through the first patient with a focus on medical equipment, furniture, IT tracks, operations, campus planning, and City and County of San Francisco.
The position is responsible for oversight and management of medical equipment (including Imaging, Labs, SPD, Pharmacy, etc.), furniture and IT tracks (including DAS, Nurse Call, RTLS, TUGs, etc.) Management role for these elements includes scope definition, facilitating user input and sign-off, schedule and budget management, incorporation and review of architectural plans, procurement, fit-up, and coordination with transition planning and move-in.
Role includes providing support for VP, New Hospital Planning and Optimization, and the clinical operations team, including oversight of user input process, ensuring timely decision making, coordination of operational needs with the project team, leading Support Services User Group meetings including hospitality, material management, and food services. The position includes management and oversight of user elective change order management.
An important aspect of the new UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights is compliance with the project EIR and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City and County of San Francisco. This position includes working closely with various UCSF departments including Campus Planning, Community and Government Relation and Office of Communications to ensure compliance. The role includes oversight in obtaining City encroachment permits, mapping out the City engagement process to meet project needs, and working with the project team to meet deliverables.
Responsible for implementation of capital projects. Provides administrative oversight for teams of project managers with an emphasis on daily operations and functions, ensuring that project progress and completion is within budget and time constraints.
