Description:
The Azusa Pacific University Department of Theater Arts invites applications for the position of Technical Director to begin Fall 2022. The department offers a B.A. in Theater Arts and a BFA in Acting for the Stage and Screen and has over 100 undergraduate theater majors. The department produces 5-6 main stage productions a year.
The Department of Theater Arts is housed within the School of Visual and Performing Arts in the College of the Arts (COTA). The College of the Arts is the premiere college on the world stage creating exceptional artistry grounded in faith.
Responsibilities:
- Teach technical courses and supervising the technical aspects of the Department.
- Supervise the technical implementation of scenic, lighting, and sound elements for a four to five production academic season.
- Remain current in safety and OSHA guidelines as well as the maintenance of equipment.
- Work with College leadership to recruit, retain and advise theater students.
- Production scheduling, supply purchasing and cost analysis.
- Advancing the APU and COTA mission and vision.
- Maintaining active professional scholarship.
- Assists in service to University through committee participation, School and/or University level as well as service to the broader professional community.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- The prime candidate should possess strong leadership skills and organizational abilities as well as carpentry skills with an eye for design in set construction, lights and basic sound.
- Bachelor of Arts required. MFA in Technical Theater or equivalent professional experience is preferred
- Proficient in Google Apps, Word, Excel and Cad
- Proficient in SketchUp, Vectorworks and AutoCAD.
- Familiar with operation and programming of lighting and sound consoles.
- Familiar with presentation and production software (Powerpoint, Q Lab, etc.)
- Designing projections is a plus.
Experience:
- 5 years experience in technical theater with an emphasis in theatrical construction, electrical lighting, sound and design experience.
Workload: Full-time position.

- Highly physical work, including frequent lifting, construction, reaching, bending, twisting and climbing ladders.
- Physical endurance.
- Prolonged standing throughout the day.
- Occasionally required to drive vehicles, box truck, stake-bed truck, cargo van, etc.
- Must be able to climb stairs or ladders and work with heights.
