Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Production Manager, manage the scene shop for a fast-paced multi-venue/multi performance environment. Plan and schedule construction to ensure efficient production of scenery and properties and painting, subsequent mounting, rigging and mechanization of stage according to master schedule while also coordinating a smooth integration of other technical elements of lighting, sound, and costumes for productions in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Ensure all scenery is constructed according to specification of blueprints, designer and Production manager. Advise designers in problem solving regarding construction and mechanization difficulties while staying within budget. Manage and supervise all scene shop personnel including carpenters, and graduate teaching assistants for load-in of productions, use and maintenance of scene shop equipment, maintenance of scene shop inventory, clean-up of stage and storage areas.
. Act as technical consultant on all the production's technical issues. Supervise and train Drama 101 students in the scenic area. Organize and implement appropriate University policies and procedures regarding safety measures for departmental facilities.
Responsible for all activities associated with multiple / comprehensive technical aspects of theater productions, including procedures and administering/ monitoring budgetary expenditures consistent with budgetary allocations, and training of staff / students. May be responsible for maintenance of theater venues, shops, and storage, including facilities and stage equipment, tools and materials, and establishing and ensuring implementation of operational procedures for all users within the facilities.
Compensation Range:
$53,500 - $75,000

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Mastery level knowledge in multiple technical theater production areas such as lighting, sound, video, costumes, hair / make-up, properties, scenery, scenic treatment, etc. Thorough working knowledge of University and collective bargaining policies, practices, rules, regulations, etc., including safety rules and regulations. Thorough organizational skills. Working knowledge of safety precautions necessary when working at considerable heights, including the use of ladders, stages, scaffolds, and safety harnesses. Thorough problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills. Ability to train staff and students as needed in the operation of scenery equipment within the school to accomplish the educational goals set by the faculty. Skill in interpreting drawings and specifications connected with the construction of scenery. Skill in using carpenters' hand and power tools such as skill saw, drill motor, and router to build and repair stage scenery/props. Thorough verbal and interpersonal communication skills to communicate complex instructions and information to disparate constituencies. Ability to collaborate in the development of production budgets and solutions to design needs. Oversee the construction and fabrication of all set designs through the use of appropriate theatre techniques.
Preferred:
Working knowledge of related outside theatrical suppliers, tools and lumber vendors, their services, invoicing and delivery policies Experience working in an educational setting.
