The Office of Development (OOD) advances Stanford's mission by raising philanthropic support from alumni, parents, families, friends, and institutional funders. Working in concert with volunteers and academic leaders, OOD staff members strive to accelerate Stanford's purposeful impact in the world. The Office of Planned Giving works with Stanford alumni and friends to realize their philanthropic and financial goals through bequests, other planned gifts such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, and gifts of complex assets. The Office of Planned Giving also manages the estates program and Stanford University's life income gift program. These generous gifts support Stanford's outstanding students, faculty, and research, ensuring the excellence of the university for future generations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Drafting pledge and gift agreements with varying degrees of complexity, charitable trust documents, and sample bequest language for gifts to Stanford.
- Initiating gift discussions with and responding to inquiries from donors and prospects for Stanford Medicine in the Office of Development. Collaborating with Medical Center Development (MCD) officers in gift solicitations, providing expertise in connection with life income gifts, charitable lead trusts, gifts of real estate, and other complex assets.
- Working closely with MCD officers to provide technical support and policy construction, including accurate documentation of outright gifts, to increase awareness of complex and deferred gift vehicles, and to cultivate new donors.
- Assisting with design and implementation of marketing efforts providing information on the methods and benefits of trusts, bequests, and other planned gifts to all whose circumstances might lead to such gifts.
- Developing and maintaining current expertise in tax, trust, probate, and other laws affecting charitable giving.
- Working closely on a collaborative basis with other professional staff in the Office of Planned Giving and the General Counsel's office.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree, and a J.D. or LLB, or related advanced degree/certification is preferred. Three years of related professional experience or combination of education and experience. Experience in tax, trust, estate planning, probate, and/or related matters.
- Strong writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and build relationships with individuals.
- Ability to work and motivate others, including prospective donors and their advisors, volunteers, and fellow staff.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and demands.
- Ability to use current desktop software applications.
- Knowledge of standard and complex charitable giving techniques.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, stand/walk, sit, use a telephone.
- Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Non-commercial Class Driver's license.
