Responsibilities
Under the division of Facilities Planning and Design (FP&D) at UC Davis Health (UCDH), The Furniture Program manages all furniture requests for UCDH. They also support move coordination for the department's relocating spaces in conjunction with our IT partners. They coordinate with IT, construction teams and various other departments as necessary to complete furniture projects.
The role of this position is to provide project management, facilities and institutional planning and furniture procurement for interior projects of limited to moderate scope and up to medium complexity with an aggregate annual budget of $2.5 million. Projects at this level may involve programming and planning for tenant improvements, and small to medium reconfigurations within office and clinical spaces. They typically involve furniture planning, coordination with construction, furniture procurement and move coordination. Projects may also involve coordination with design and engineering professionals.
This position acts as furniture programming coordinator with clients, committees, and staff members; makes physical inventories of building spaces and facilities utilization; is responsible for furniture asset allocation and control, and manages furniture installation and related activities. The project manager also performs planning duties such as analyzing building space and furniture needs, allocations, cost, and priority and assisting with capital planning documents.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License and Good Driving Record
- Bachelor's Degree (preferably in planning, healthcare, business administration, project management, architecture/design, or construction management) and/or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience in project and program management for projects with varied scope and complexity.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, group facilitation and coordination
- Experience reading and reviewing architectural plans and furniture installation and assembly plans.
- Experience using basic software tools, such as MS Excel or Project to create and management budgets and schedules.
- Demonstrated expert communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
- Proficient organizational skills to organize, plan and coordinate and set priorities effectively.
- Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expert experience managing, planning, or specifying systems furnishings
- Experience successfully managing facility projects including direct responsibility for the leadership of the project team and development and management of the overall project budget and schedule.
- Experience overseeing varied vendor contracts within a public agency setting
- Experience developing and overseeing space, furniture and/or facility standards within a large organization.
- Experience developing plans and specifications using CAD software
- Experience in foreseeing problems and developing ways of solving them with the least negative impact on requisitioners. Can act independently and pro-actively
- Knowledge of the University or Government work environment.
- Knowledge of, or work experience, in a hospital or outpatient setting.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards, California and Industry Building codes and regulations, ADA compliance, fire codes, municipal ordnances, university regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of standard procurement procedures and vendor invoicing.
- Customer relations skills and interpersonal skills sufficient to relate to diverse personalities at all levels while operating in a strong services-oriented environment.
- Strong communication skills to use both oral and written skills to affect action in a diplomatic manner.
- Familiarity with UC policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations that impact the procurement process. Familiarity with special Funding Agency requirements that stipulate special procedures for purchases and documentation of those purchases.
Special Requirements
- Incumbent must travel to the UCD/UCDHS facilities and vendor locations on department/personnel Business.

- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
