MPC/Colmena Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our California and Minnesota Projects and help grow the mechanical/plumbing branch of our electrical engineering firm. We have 25+ years of experience of design consulting electrical engineering and systems engineering with a diverse portfolio of design-bid-build and design/build projects. Our project sector is primarily in the transit industry with other projects extending into municipal, higher education and sports arenas. Ideally, the candidate will be located in the Bay Area as most of our projects require on-site inspections once the projects progress into the Construction phase. The ideal candidate is a registered Professional Engineer in MN and CA or at a minimum, can become registered within a 3 month time frame in both these states.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Licensed Professional Engineer - Mechanical
- Preferably with ten (10) years of related experience in HVAC and Plumbing design (fire protection is a plus)
- Excellent project planning, organizational and time management skills
- Extensive understanding of HVAC engineering fundamentals including load calculations, conceptual systems analysis through construction documentation design, design and layout of equipment, duct, and pipe sizing
- Experience with Design/Bid/Build, Design-Build and other Alternative Delivery practices
- Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident
- Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills
- Have a high degree of integrity, professional ethics, respect, and responsibility
- Ability to analyze and provide solutions to complex challenges
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to incorporate Transit Agency Standards and Design Criteria to design drawings and specifications as they apply to various projects.
- Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience
- Working experience of CA mechanical/plumbing codes and Title 24 Compliance
- Ability to concisely express complex system solutions in very early design phases to share intent either internally for further development, or externally to assist design partners
Responsibilities
- Project discipline leadership
- Participation in marketing and development of proposals
- Development of system narratives and specifications (writing, organizing the document, develop concepts)
- Project mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems design inter-disciplinary coordination lead, for coordination with other trades and consultants
- Follow quality assurance and quality control procedures and documentation
- Participate in Project Interdisciplinary Design Reviews
- Interact and work with a diverse set of clients and subcontractors
- Ownership of team metrics (utilization, finances, performance reviews)
- Visit client sites for accurate existing conditions gathering
