Position Summary:
The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. Serves as the technical expert in one of the following fields / disciplines: Laboratory Safety, Radiation Safety, Fire Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, and General Safety including Pest Management, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Hazardous Materials, Hazardous Waste, or Environmental Protection. Problems are complex and may require creation of new methodologies by applying professional EH&S knowledge and / or expertise. May represent EH&S regarding the field / discipline at meetings and conferences involving academic compliance committees, campus, system wide, local government, state and federal levels of authority in matters related to field of expertise. Decision-making is based on established procedures and integration / interpretation of relevant laws, regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology, impact on other EH&S programs; and senior management approvals. Decisions may impact other EH&S programs, departments, segments of the organization and / or organization-wide. Responsible for maintaining scope of work in Fire & Life Safety for the University. Responsibilities include Title 19 and Title 24 programs. Develops, implements, and maintains several Fire & Life Safety policies, programs, inspections, and campus system maintenance. Ensures that Fire Life & Safety regulatory maintenance standards are met for the University.
Compensation Range: Commensurate with experience

Required:
Three years recent full-time experience performing a combination of fire prevention inspections, fire protection systems inspections, plan review and construction inspections in a California local or state entity responsible for fire and life safety code and regulation enforcement.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Fire Inspector II Certification or equivalent within 12-months of hire California State Fire Marshal 16-hour 'Statutes and Regulations course' within 12-months of hire California State Fire Marshal Inspector 2B, or completion of 15 units in college credit in Fire Technology or equivalent.
Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within budget and time constraints. Experience in developing and implementing fire safety programs and procedures, training/information, and record-keeping system. Demonstrated time management and process management ability. Knowledge and/or experience working with the California Building Standards Code and all relevant national standards, including the NFPA. Advanced or expert knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards, guidelines and, as appropriate, recommend organization policy. Advanced skill to effectively represent the organization to state and federal authorities, and community groups. Advanced skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required. Knowledge of principles and practices of fire inspection and code enforcement. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including advanced political acumen and skill to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies in a highly political environment. Advanced or expert knowledge / understanding of broad range of EH&S fields and familiarity with all EH&S fields.
Preferred:
Advanced skill in mentoring or overseeing the work of other EH&S technical and professional staff. Previous experience working in higher education or similar institution. Designated Campus Fire Marshal (UCOP State Fire Marshal Certification/Designation).
Special Conditions Required:
Designated Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) appointment eligibility, as determined by the California State Fire Marshal within in 12 months of hire as a condition of continued employment Must have a valid CA drivers license and participate in the DMV Pull-notice program Must be able to wear PPE Must be able to work outside of regularly scheduled shift Must comply with UC Vaccination Policies
