Systems and Network Administrator (TEMP)
Ideal Candidate Statement:
This position is focused on Network Administrator responsibilities which provide a robust, reliable, secure, highly available, and mission-focused network infrastructure through monitoring and alerting. This person performs network administration, configuration and diagnostics (hardware, software and security) for all networking components, including physical LANs, firewalls, security and network access control systems for wired and wireless networks and telecommunications. This person will use their knowledge of core networking principles, methods, and techniques for design, installation, configuration, integration, and operation of network systems, components, equipment, and devices. This person will thrive in a team environment while supporting the diverse student and employee environment.

Position:
Under the general direction of the Director, IT Services and Support, the Systems and Network Administrator participates as a member of the IT Services team, focusing on setting up, configuring, and deploying networks and operating systems for District-wide use. The system network administrator determines the District's data storage and transmission needs and makes key decisions regarding network setup, security and capacity to provide users with reliable access to key data and software. They are also responsible for designing, configuring, and supporting standardized solutions that are reliable, available, scalable, manageable, secure and accessible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
DUTY STATEMENTS:
- Conduct diagnostic testing on servers and network configurations and administrate infrastructure, including firewalls, databases, malware protection software and other processes, as needed;
- Configure and apply system patches to servers and software;
- Implements various system software/hardware standards, procedures and maintenance activities to achieve the highest possible reliability, security, and accessibility of network systems and servers;
- Configure, operate and maintain a variety of organizational servers, including email, backup, business software, security, DNS, DHCP, SANS, Virtual machine and Virtual Design;
- Supports and maintains Office 365 user/group email account, troubleshoot email problem, migrate local Exchange email account to Office 365;
- Maintain Ohlone cloud infrastructure in AWS, troubleshoot and resolve server, DNS and Ohlone website problem;
- Evaluate network servers and architecture and suggest possible solutions to mitigate or reduce potential risk to systems and services;
- Research, identify and recommend potential technologies, products and/or changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software and make recommendations regarding acquisition and requirements related to such changes;
- Design coordinate, implement and maintain network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware;
- Perform or work with team members to support regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures;
- Maintains and responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization;
- Analyze, evaluate and optimize network system or equipment performance;
- Maintain a variety of organizational servers, including email, backup, business software, security, DNS, DHCP, SANS, Virtual machine and Virtual Desktop systems, applications, departmental and other assigned servers;
- Perform and maintain data backups and disaster recovery operations including adding users to a network addressing all security related functions;
- Maintain logs related to network functions applications, as well as maintenance and repair records;
- Communicate in-person or at meetings with personnel inside and outside of the college organization including contractors and construction personnel to coordinate activities, projects exchange information and resolve issues or concerns;
- Act as a technical resource for questions and advises non-technical staff in the campus community based on users expertise;
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes;
- Assign routing protocols and routing table configuration;
- Assist network administrator(s) to design, analyze and deploy network models including participating in decisions about future hardware or software purchases to upgrade organizations network;
- Troubleshoot and resolve network problems involving LAN, WLAN, WAN, VLAN, firewalls, network security, VPN, data center environmental systems and controls, network interconnectivity, and applications;
- Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems;
- Prepare, update and submit usage reports and provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure;
- Develops and maintains complete and accurate records pertaining to hardware, software, system, and network configurations, changes, outages and improvement plans;
- Confer with network users about how to solve existing system problems and coordinate with users and team members to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner;
- Operates and maintains the college voice network including making any needed changes;
- Configure communications servers and troubleshoot problems with telephony services including responding to inquiries and updating E-911 databased as needed
- Assign configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services including the organizations servers and desktop and mobile equipment ensure that email and data storage networks are functioning properly;
- Monitor server systems for efficient use of storage systems, make recommendations to increase efficiency and productivity of network and server systems in accordance with college policies and procedures;
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity while engaging with a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of faculty, staff, and students with physical and learning disabilities;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- VMWare, VDI, Visio, Genetech, Alertus, Exchange, AWS, Office 365, Windows Server 2008-2019, SQL databases, VOIP, voicemail, PBX, TCP/IP, DNS, Routing, DHCP, Print Servers;

- Network IP addressing, network concepts, routing protocols and standards, including Ethernet, broadband and wireless networks;

- Management of inter/intranet and web administration applications;
- Configuration of network switches, routers and other network devices;
- Security practices and firewalls;
- Structured wiring design and practices.

AA degree with coursework in computer systems and network technologies AND plus substantial continued education and training in the Information Technology field;
OR
Equivalent experience in the field. Bachelors degree and network / systems certifications preferred.
