POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Merced invites applications for one new tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor starting July 1, 2023.
An Assistant Teaching Professor is a tenure-track faculty position with emphasis on undergraduate education. Candidates with expertise in any areas of Chemistry and Biochemistry are encouraged to apply. The primary focus of this position is teaching lower division chemistry courses using modern, student-centered pedagogies. The successful candidate should be knowledgeable about evidence-based pedagogical and assessment methods as well as creative and resourceful with respect to developing instructional initiatives. If it is of interest, there is a vibrant and supportive community of Teaching Professors in the sciences who are active in discipline-based educational research.
In addition, UC Merced values equity, justice, and inclusion, and the Chemistry and Biochemistry department is committed to hiring faculty who support these values. Therefore, the successful candidate will clearly articulate an understanding of the barriers facing students from groups historically excluded from STEM, as well as ways to leverage innovative teaching practices to reduce gaps among students from different backgrounds.

Basic qualifications
Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field. Record of effective teaching at the college or university level. Record of research, scholarship, or other professional achievement and activity. Record of contributions to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
