About the Position:
Cal State Fullerton's College of the Arts is distinguished by its fully-accredited department of Visual Arts. Fine arts, new media, and design programs provide quality learning to 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students within state of the art studios, classrooms, computer and design labs, and galleries. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Dean (Administrator IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of the Arts with oversight for all aspects of the college. The College is comprised of the departments of Theatre and Dance, School of Music, and Visual Arts, the Clayes Performing Arts Center, the new visual arts complex (currently under construction), and the off-site Grand Central Arts Center (GCAC) located in downtown Santa Ana, California. The Dean furthers the mission and goals of the University by ensuring excellence in teaching, scholarship, and creative activity and by promoting the goals and objectives of the college.
Provides strategic direction for developing, maintaining, and enhancing degree programs and activities that will lead to growth and degree currency, and has oversight responsibility for assuring compliance with regional and national accrediting agencies. As chief administrative officer of the College, the Dean is responsible for championing faculty development and promoting faculty scholarship and creative activities; long-range resource planning and administering budgets; leadership in fundraising activities; overseeing outcomes assessment; fostering the identity of the College and representing the College to its constituents; and overseeing all College facilities and centers. Responsible for faculty and staff recruitment and retention and participates in all evaluation, retention, tenure, and promotion processes. Works effectively with a variety of individuals from inside and outside the University, including students, faculty, managers, and staff, as well as community constituents and maintains the College's responsibility to strengthen anti-racist, culturally responsive, and equity-minded practices across all communities. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Earned doctorate or Master of Fine Arts from an accredited institution; qualification and scholarly/creative achievement for a faculty appointment at the rank of Full Professor in a department within the College of the Arts. Substantial administrative experience as a dean, associate dean, department chair, or comparable position, including strategic planning; policy development; budget oversight; effective leadership, supervision and management of faculty and staff personnel; collegial collaboration as a member of an academic administrative team; a record of support for faculty development and faculty scholarly and creative activities; experience and leadership in development and fundraising; administrative experience working with programs serving a student population that is diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and/or disability. Ability to understand and implement the University's mission and goals.

Preferred Qualifications:
Significant experience solving a variety of complex curriculum development and delivery matters; fiscal/budgetary, human resources, and organizational management challenges in an accredited institution of higher learning of similar size and complexity to the College of the Arts at CSU Fullerton. Demonstrated prior experience and success in generating external support and in fundraising. Knowledge of the academic and program areas of the College of the Arts.
