POSITION DESCRIPTION
San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education Plus (SJV PRIME+) is a multi-campus BS/MD program designed to expand high-quality medical education in the San Joaquin Valley. Through a partnership between UCSF, its regional clinical campus UCSF Fresno, and UC Merced, the program will recruit, educate, and support future physicians to serve the communities of the San Joaquin Valley.
The program includes a four-year baccalaureate component, leading into the UCSF Doctor of Medicine curriculum. High school graduates accepted into the program will enter the eight-year program directly from high school. Students in the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD program will receive their BS from the School of Natural Sciences and the first 1.5 years of medical training based at UC Merced. After completing their preclinical training at UC Merced, students will be based at the UCSF Fresno campus where they complete the clinical training needed to graduate with an MD degree.
We are seeking a physician leader primarily responsible for the design, continuing development, and implementation of the pre-clerkship portion of the curriculum leading to the BS/MD degree. This leader is expected to be knowledgeable about medical education accreditation requirements and to demonstrate or develop a full understanding of and commitment to supporting the UCSF School of Medicine curriculum, educational philosophy, and student graduation milestones. A key success factor is ensuring SJV PRIME+ students have an equivalent medical education experience to their counterparts at the UCSF administrative campus, master the competencies needed to advance through the medical school, and provide the highest quality, most patient-centered care.
The Director is expected to oversee and provide leadership in the following areas: accreditation compliance; student advising and mentoring; curricular design, implementation, and evaluation; student assessment; faculty mentoring and development; admissions processes; and budget development. The work of the Director is done with and through others and thus, the successful candidate must be able to engage and empower SJV PRIME+ faculty and staff as well as UCSF and UC Merced campus staff and leaders to advance our collective work and to ensure a positive environment for all.
An ideal candidate will have strong administrative and collaborative skills in addition to intellectual leadership and vision. The candidate must enthusiastically and expertly advance our culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. A joint faculty appointment at the UCSF School of Medicine (SoM) will be established to enable the Director to assume responsibility for this regional campus of the UCSF School of Medicine. This position reports to the UCM Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost and UCSF Associate Dean for Regional Campuses, with a dotted line to the UCSF Associate Dean for Curriculum.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy: https://policy.ucop.edu/doc/5000695/SARS-CoV-2_Covid-19. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. New University of California employees should refer to Appendix F, Section II.C. of the policy for applicable deadlines. (Capitalized terms in this paragraph are defined in the policy.) Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
