Department Description
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Risk and Safety Solutions (RSS) is leading the development of technology systems for Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety for UC wide deployment and use. This position is responsible for simplifying the integration of numerous IT components and enabling trace data flows between applications, ensuring all RSS applications are integrated and work as one platform. Provides architectural and technical leadership for Integration data management and external APIs to solve complex business problems to streamline business practices in 10 UC Campuses and 5 Medical Centers.

JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction from the Associate Director DevOps, and in collaboration with the other department architects, the Mobile Application Architect plans, coordinates, architects, and supervises all activities related to mobile software development and third-party solutions as required to meet business requirements of the organization. Focus on collaborating with internal development, design, and business teams to build mobile solutions. Provide mentorship and training to team leads and developers to ensure consistent and cohesive mobile solutions to the standards of RSS. Identify and communicate strategic technology standards, frameworks, principles, and roadmaps to be used throughout the IT organization to guide technology decisions and leverage efficiency opportunities. Drive design for a secure, efficient, and adaptable future state model. Ensure all mobile projects are in alignment and integrated with all other projects to meet departments strategic goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work flexible hours on short notice to meet operational needs. Work beyond 40 hours per week as needed.
- Restricted vacation usage during peak workload periods
- Travel to meetings on an as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Information Systems.
- Experience leading projects and working collaboratively with large and distributed technical and nontechnical staff to meet project and organizational goals.
- Experience as a Senior Programmer/Architect overseeing multiple mobile applications in various architectures.
- Experience with enterprise level mobile application development and data analysis and work providing data focused mobile solutions
- Experience deploying one or more applications to the Google Play Store or Apple App Store
- Oral, written and interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with administration, staff, visitors, volunteers, technical and nontechnical audiences using tact, diplomacy, and good judgment during all interactions in the performance of a wide variety of programs and support functions.
- Skills to define and model business unit needs with appropriate techniques and to produce design and technical specifications and documentation for use in the design and construction phase of systems development.
Preferred:
- Experience with Android and iOS mobile development tools and non-native tools such as but not limited to React Native, Ionic, Xamarian, gomobile
- Experience working with offline data storage systems such a Realm, WatermelonDB, or PouchDB
- Experience with data syncing solutions such as web sockets, App Sync, or Atlas App Services
- Experience building a CI/CD pipeline with Github Actions, TravisCI, or others
- Experience with distribution automation tools such as AppCenter and Fastlane
- Experience building responsive mobile interfaces that fit a wide range of phones and tablets
- Experience with automated testing for mobile devices.
