Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a Community Jewish Day School, seeks an energetic, passionate, flexible and talented Volleyball coach for grades 5-8. The successful candidate has previous experience coaching and or playing volleyball, will be professional and collaborative, and will possess both personal and professional integrity.
Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is a TK through eighth grade Jewish community day school. Its 76,000 square foot facility includes a gymnasium/auditorium, a library, a lunch pavilion, elementary and middle school media labs, an innovation center, elementary and middle school science labs, a music classroom and a newly designed art studio, playgrounds, and an athletic field. The school’s values of tradition, character, and community have been its foundation for over 50 years and they continue to infuse students, faculty, staff, and parents with shared vision and meaningful purpose. Our academic program emphasizes the development of thinking, problem solving, and creative self-expression which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills. Modern approaches to teaching and learning, using technology, project-based learning, and an overall emphasis on student attainment of 21st century skills are balanced with incorporation of ancient traditions and values that are hallmarks of Judaism. The teaching of resilience, the overcoming of adversity, and the development of confidence in one’s abilities are emphasized, bearing in mind age-appropriate capabilities and individual student progress.
Responsibilities will include:
-Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program
-Participate in faculty meetings, field trips, committees and school wide activities
-Establish and maintain standards of excellence for supervision and student engagement
-Promote active participation of all students to ensure a positive and rewarding recess experience
-Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration as needed regarding social, emotional, and physical development of students
-Plan and ensure that curriculum and lessons are geared to meet the needs of multiple levels of athletic ability and a wide range of learners
-Successfully integrate coaching athletics into the class curriculum and be able to coach and encourage a wide range of abilities on the athletic field in competitive sports
Successful candidates will have:
-Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience
-An understanding of child development and the unique needs of children at each stage of development
-Experience with assessment, both formative and summative
-Comfort with technology use for communications and instruction
-Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with people of all levels in a professional and constructive manner
-Strong written and oral skills (parent communications, progress reports)
-Flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities
-Desire to engender a love of learning as well as a caring, professional demeanor, and the willingness to work as part of multiple teams (PE department, -General and Judaic Studies teachers, Administration)
-Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development
-High expectations for students, teamwork, and excellence
-Experience coaching children in flag football, basketball, volleyball, or soccer
