Job Summary
Full-time position responsible for specialized technical support to a wide range of environmental, occupational health and safety disciplines that align with the organization' s EH&S standards and with federal and state regulatory requirements.
This is a Campus Critical position. An employee designated as campus critical is expected to be aware of the campus emergency management plan and to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in campus wide response and recovery efforts.
Essential Job Duties
- Performs advanced technical and administrative duties in laboratory and campus safety, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, emergency response, regulatory compliance, and training.
- Under general supervision, develop s , implement s , and conduct s hazard assessments, training programs, and i inspections necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of employees and the campus community.
- Competent person in OSHA general industry standards, able to investigate accidents, injuries, and concerns related to hazards or conditions in the workplace.
- Applies innovative technical knowledge to recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize potentially hazardous conditions.
- Conducts calendared and on-demand employee training, ergonomic evaluations, and respiratory fit testing, and responds to fire/life/safety incidents for root cause analysis.
- Work closely with Design and Construction Project Managers to onboard contractors and provide construction safety support.
- Certify Hazardous Material Business Plan (HMBP) information in CERS as complete, accurate , and in conformance with EPCRA reporting requirements.
- Applies specialized knowledge of processes, procedures, and equipment used in monitoring and auditing EH&S conditions.
- Maintains current knowledge of regulatory requirements and updates EH&S Programs accordingly.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
Basic Qualifications
- Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental, health and safety program or Bachelor's degree with ten years relevant experience.
- Meet California's requirements for asbestos and lead testing and inspection.
Physical Demands:
- The selected candidate will be required to stand and walk for moderate periods ; lift and carry up to 30 lbs. of tools and equipment; and needs to have the ability to wear a respirator and other protective equipment when working under hazardous conditions.
Environmental Conditions:
- The selected candidate will enter active construction sites as well as laboratories that are using chemical, biohazardous, and radioactive materials.
Protective Devices Required to Use:
- Gloves, lab coat, coveralls; respirator as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- CIH, CSP, PMP, RIHP, and OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer.
- Master's degree with 10 years or more years of professional experience in a comprehensive environmental, health and safety program, preferably in a University setting.
- Experience in implementing OSHA General Industry standards covered under 29 CFR, 1910 or equivalent Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders.
- Previous experience related to construction industry or application of contractor safety programs.
- DOT certification for packaging/shipping of chemicals, hazardous materials, and dangerous goods.
