Under the direction of the Associate Director or designated Supervisor, the Painter is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of finishes of exterior surfaces, interior walls, ceilings and floor surfaces in University buildings, facilities, and equipment (such as exterior/rooftop) including but is not limited to the following specific tasks:
- Applying various types of paint, i.e., primers, Sealers, oil/water based, vinyl or cement-based paints.
- Performs journey-level painting work including but not limited to preparation of building equipment (rooftop or in mechanical areas) for effective preservation/maintenance by painting/waterproofing; drywall taping and finishing, floor coverings and specialty coatings, furniture refinishing in connection with the maintenance, repair and construction of University buildings, facilities, and equipment.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including erecting and hanging scaffolding; removes all paint or varnish by scraping, sanding, grinding; washes, cleans and patches surfaces and otherwise prepares surfaces, such as wood, metal, glass, stucco, wallboard, brick, cement; tape & drywall for painting.
- Mixes and prepares paints, lacquers, varnishes, and other preservatives; selects, blends, and matches colors in proper proportions.
- Assembles, operates various types of painting equipment, including spray guns, pressure washer, grinder, high reach power and other equipment; cleans and maintains brushes and other painting equipment; properly dispose of hazardous materials.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
