Supplier Diversity Program Manager
This is a two year fixed term position.
This position is approved for hybrid work. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.
The expected pay range for this position is $98,000 to $165,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Financial Management Services (FMS) is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound business policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. FMS serves the university as an accessible team of trusted advisers, deploying robust financial systems and streamlined processes to address the ever-changing university landscape. In addition, FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and services as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). JOB PURPOSE:
The supplier diversity program will strive to deliver results that have a direct impact on the University's values which is a "commitment to ensuring equity and inclusion in our research and on our campus, embedding ethics across research and education and engaging with partners beyond our walls to learn from and give back to our local and global community". This position is responsible for the expansion, implementation, management and support of the University's Supplier Diversity program. Activities include supplier relationship management, outreach coordination, data management, certification verification, diverse supplier participation monitoring and reporting.
The Manager's responsibilities will include:
- Designing diverse supplier engagement strategies, identifying qualified diverse suppliers and networks, integrating supplier diversity best practices across the university and leading diverse supplier business programs.
- Working with diverse supplier networks and managing complex supplier relationships.
- Creating a supplier diversity governance framework.
- Creating or expanding a supplier diversity program in a decentralized environment (where business units and schools' efforts may be at different maturity levels).
- Working with stakeholders to encourage, develop and implement supplier diversity targets and goals.
CORE DUTIES:
Program responsibilities
- Manages the administrative, financial, and compliance activities for the Supplier Diversity Program and serves as the primary contact.
- Provides recommendations to the Assistant Vice President of Procurement Services in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and participation goals for the University's Supplier Diversity program relating to the procurement of contracts for goods, services, materials, professional services, and construction.
- Assists University departments in understanding the value proposition and the University's commitment to support certified diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE utilization. Identifies, and assists diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE in conducting business with the University.
Outreach (internal and external)
- Monitors the delivery of the Supplier Diversity program efforts and specific outreach events to maintain or improve quality.
- Participates in workshops, presentations and trade fairs designed to introduce small businesses to university buyers and purchasers.
- Actively engages and works directly with stakeholders across the University and in the local business community to create equitable access to meaningful business opportunities to diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE.
- Effectively communicates and educates stakeholders across the University and in the local business community on how to utilize certified diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE in the contracting processes.
- Develops and communicates messages to increase awareness and engagement; conveys policies and best practices, and Stanford's commitment to supplier diversity to external audiences.
- Facilitates engagement in industry networking events, presentations and other activities that build connections and demonstrate Stanford's support.
Measurement, Tools, and Training
- Compiles data to analyze the effectiveness of the Supplier Diversity program against agreed upon stated goals both qualitative and quantitative.
- Develops and prepares quarterly and annual reports on diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE activities and key metrics.
- Leads the evaluation of key reporting, search tools and supporting technologies to support campus.
- Implements capacity building initiatives that provide suppliers with insight into Stanford's operations, organization, values, and expectations in order to strengthen their ability to meet the needs of Stanford.
- Provides training to departments and certified diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE commodity or service-related procurement topics and tools.
Policies and procedures
- Coordinates with schools, business units, centrally and certified SMV/WBE to satisfy and facilitate contract requirements and identify and explore alternatives to potential barriers.
- Interprets procurement policy and provides technical assistance to departments, contractors, and certified diverse suppliers including SMV/WBE to ensure a competent pool of diverse vendors to address the University's annual procurement needs, goals, and objectives.
- Facilitates and maintains a governance structure that supports the supplier diversity program.
- Supports annual program budget, sets program goals, and provides periodic updates to the supplier diversity advisory committee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience designing diverse supplier engagement strategies, identifying qualified diverse suppliers and networks, integrating supplier diversity best practices across a corporation or institution and leading diverse supplier business programs.
- Experience in working with diverse supplier networks and managing complex supplier relationships.
- Experience in creating or expanding supplier diversity programs in a decentralized environment.
- Experience in working with stakeholders to encourage, develop and implement supplier diversity targets and goals.
- Familiarity with reporting, tools and technologies that support a supplier diversity program.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
- Ability to work independently and produce results with minimum direction.
