Position overview
Position title: NEOLUX Yeh Lab Assistant Project Scientist
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the scale titled, REPRESENTED PROJECT ___ (E.G., SCIENTIST) SERIES BUSINESS/ECONOMICS/ENGINEERING FISCAL YEAR. 'Off-scale salaries', i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $86,600 - $91,000.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: August 1, 2023
Position duration: Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position Description
The NEOLUX Yeh Lab in the Biomolecular Engineering Department at the University of California Santa Cruz, invites applications for a Ph.D. level scientist who is capable of conducting independent research design, performing cellular imaging, organizing small animal models, and designing optogenetic probes to study biological system.
Research activities include, but are not limited to, mammalian tissue culture and generating cell lines, performing live cell microscopy imaging, performing molecular cloning and construct plasmids, generating gene libraries for high-throughput protein functional screening, protein expression and biophysical characterization, developing new methods for in vivo imaging, and computational data analysis. This position will require the incumbent to exercise good time management and problem-solving skills, perform and document research in an organized, methodical, and analytical manner; contribute to writing and data analysis for publications; work both independently and with a team; and contribute to the training of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
Applicants with any of the following qualities or experience are strongly encouraged to apply: expertise in optogenetic and electrophysiology; experience working with live cell/animal imaging technology platforms, including microscopy and patch clamp; and/or demonstrated excellence in academic research as evidenced by a record of peer-reviewed first or co-first author publications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in biochemistry, immunology, neuroscience, or chemistry.
- A minimum of five years' research experience while serving as a postdoctoral scholar/scientist.
