The Department of Earth System Science is seeking a full-time Research and Project Assistant to work with Professor Alison Hoyt whose research group focuses on soil carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, and their response to climate and land use changes. The Research and Project Assistant will be expected to work closely with the PI and multiple members of the research group and must be able to execute directions in a timely manner. This position will involve a combination of engineering design, field measurements, and general project support. In addition, they should be able to work independently, to analyze problems and come up with creative solutions. Candidates with a background in engineering, Earth system science, or related fields are particularly encouraged to apply.
Your Responsibilities will include:
* Contributing to the design, development, and construction of greenhouse gas flux chambers
* Running laboratory testing and calibration
* Supporting and participating in field campaigns locally and internationally
* Assisting in the preparation of results for presentation and publication.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelors' degree and two years of experience in related scientific field, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Demonstrated experience applying multidisciplinary scientific principles and practices to perform and assist with experimental design and coordinate laboratory activity.
* Demonstrated experience with analysis and interpretation of research data, and ability to recognize irregularities and invalid results.
* Demonstrated ability to organize data and develop models allowing for integration and display of data.
* Basic experience with scientific software applications, systems, or programs relevant for the job.
* Ability to coordinate and work with scientific or research staff and assist with technical procedures.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to provide information to scientific and research staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
* Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
* Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
* Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
* Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
* Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
* Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
* Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
* May be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise>80dB TWA, chemicals, asbestos and heavy metals. May work in confined spaces; work at heights and temperature extremes.
* May work extended or unusual work hours based on research and project requirements.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,000 to $89,000 per annum / hour. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
