Detailed Description:
Under general supervision of the Fleet supervisor, performs mechanical maintenance and repair of: automobiles, electric and gas carts, trucks, trams, buses, construction equipment and small engine maintenance equipment, to manufacturer's specifications and California Vehicle Code safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on automobiles, trucks, electric carts, construction and maintenance equipment owned by the University as it pertains to the following categories.
- Performs servicing and preventative maintenance work.
- Submits orders for parts and materials to the fleet supervisor.
- Distributes gas to vehicles/equipment of the University.
- Assist in the keeping of service materials and labor record.
- Washes/cleans and maintains vehicles, power equipment, tools and work place in a good and safe working condition.
- Works in a neat and orderly manner.
- Cleans up daily and at the end of the job.
Safety
- Maintains an awareness of the typical hazards of the work place as well as the special hazards that may be encountered at any University facility location such as biohazards, low grade radiation, and chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
- Consistently follows safety practices appropriate to the trade and complies with rules and regulations established by the University and governmental agencies (local, state, and federal).
- Follows established governmental (local, state and federal) procedures for dealing with hazards and promptly report any on the job accident to Security and to the supervisor in writing.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to work assigned working hours as required to satisfy University needs.
- Must have a valid California Drivers/Class B Driver's License with passenger endorsement and will be required to drive University vehicles.
- May take the University supplied (self-study) enrichment courses and participate in various seminars related to the trade.
- Must be in excellent physical condition.
- May be required to work overtime as needed.
- Must have knowledge of and be able to perform periodic Planned Maintenance and Repairs on 15 passenger Vehicles and Trams.
- Preferred knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicles.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have five (5) years of skilled experience performing a wide variety of servicing/repair duties on automobiles, trucks, electric carts, construction and maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical defects in automotive, trucks, electric carts, construction and maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to operate a Diagnostic Scanning Device and other test equipment to locate and determine defects and malfunctions.
- Must be able to change/add hydraulic fluid and oil in engines, transmissions, brake cylinders, differentials, and steering systems, ect.
- Must be able to efficiently perform tune-ups in automobiles and maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to change, adjust and do minor repair work in alternators, power steering, starters, fuel and water pumps, heaters, radiators, vacuum emission controls, belts, hoses etc.
- Must be able to overhaul and adjust brake systems.
- Must be able to check test and maintain batteries and battery cables.
- Must be able to mount/balance tires, vulcanize tubes and change or rotate tires.
- Must be able to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
- Must be physically able to consistently perform job duties.
- Must be able to do routine work under minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain good working relations with students, faculty, staff and adhere to the Universitys policies and procedures.
- Understands the importance of customer service and has the ability to follow-up as well as communicate to FM and the campus clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred knowledge of hybrid and electric vehicles.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
