Role
SANDAG is seeking Associate Engineers to work within the SANDAG Engineering and Construction Department. These positions will assist project managers in the construction management for capital project delivery within the San Diego region, including design, construction and quality management.
These positions are ideal for engineering professionals with a strong interest in working on projects that will directly benefit the San Diego community. These positions will allow the selected applicant to learn from experienced professionals and develop expertise in the fields of construction and quality management.
Overview of Capital Improvement Program
The SANDAG Engineering and Construction Department is responsible for implementing projects that enhance the regional transportation network and improve the efficiency of existing resources in close collaboration with our regional partners. Examples of significant projects currently underway or in the planning process include the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry, LOSSAN Rail Corridor Improvements, and high-priority Regional Bikeway Projects in the City of San Diego and other jurisdictions.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with major course work in civil, structural, electrical, systems or transportation engineering. Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California is desirable.
- Three years of increasingly responsible, professional capital project design, construction, and delivery experience, preferably for transportation related projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of construction, engineering, right-of-way, and environmental permitting; construction, implementation, and administration of transportation projects in environmentally sensitive areas.
- Ability to prepare and review specifications and plans for regional transportation projects; ability to coordinate with contractors and other professionals in the development and delivery of engineering plans, specifications, estimates, reports, calculations, and approved specifications.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate several concurrent projects at various stages of completion; ability to establish and maintain priorities and work independently.
- Demonstrated computer software proficiency using various programs from the Microsoft Office Suite and other PC-based applications; experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD), financial management systems, project management, and scheduling software is desirable.
