Position overview Position title: Junior/Assistant Specialist
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The current base salary range for this position is $49,000 - $63,000. Off-scale salaries' which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
Percent time: 100%
Anticipated start: June 2023
Position duration: One year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Position description
The Koshland laboratory uses budding yeast to study fundamental processes in cell biology. Our approach has been to develop novel genetic reagents and cell biological methods to analyze these complex processes in vivo, coupled with the development and exploitation of in vitro assays to reveal underlying molecular mechanisms. Together these approaches have allowed us to make significant contributions to following three areas of research: Higher Order Chromosome Structure, The Maintenance of Genome Integrity (chromosome number and integrity), and Stress Tolerance.
Responsibilities:
- This position will focus on the execution and quantification of fixed and live cell imaging experiments.
- Perform candidate-based and unbiased genetic screening with yeast, standard molecular biology and yeast genetic experiments for strain and plasmid construction.
- Laboratory maintenance through keeping of adequate stocks and ordering supplies.
