The Mission of the Stanford University Grounds Services Department is to provide a beautiful and safe outdoor experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Immediate Opening: Sprinkler/Landscape Tech 1, Monday -Friday, 6 am- 2:30 pm in Area B.
What you will do in this role:
You will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Employees in this classification work under the direct supervision of a supervisor or a higher-level employee or Lead.
- Employees in this classification perform a variety of duties involved in the modification, maintenance and repair of manual and automatic sprinkler systems as well as landscape preparation, recovery and planting throughout the campus.
- The Sprinkler/Landscape Tech I performs routine maintenance, minor repairs and landscape work with only general instructions from the supervisor or lead and with or without check of completed work. Guidance from the lead or supervisor is available via phone and/or in person as needed or requested. In performing more difficult work, they receive detailed instructions and review.
The duties listed under this section are designed to provide a representative sampling of key tasks and/or responsibilities associated with the job. They are not intended to be a complete list of all the duties performed by employees in the classification:
- Prepare designated areas for installation and repair of irrigation systems and other landscape components.
- Install handheld remote unit to operate controller remotely.
- Utilize computerized tools to analyze irrigation systems for problems.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs for sprinkler/irrigation systems.
- Visually inspect irrigation systems, lawns and plant areas for excessive water and/or dryness.
- Apply mulch to designated areas.
- As directed, plant trees, shrubs, flowers, etc. and install header boards for edging.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to safety rules.

To be successful in this role you must bring:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- One year sprinkler/irrigation and landscaping experience preferred.
- Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's license.
- Basic horticultural knowledge and understanding of plants, planting and maintenance.
- Basic understanding of centralized computerized irrigation control systems required.
- Ability to understand and follow job-related instructions, either verbally or in writing.
- Basic computer skills and use of smart phone required.
- Horticultural industry related certification preferred.
Compensation:
The expected pay range for this position is $29.61 (Step 1) - $35.75 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay rangeis subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of theposition, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License.
Working Conditions
- Required to wear appropriate issued uniform.
- Ability to work safely in all types of outside weather conditions.
- May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including holidays.
- Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stop/squat, kneel/crawl, grasp forcefully and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-20 pounds,
- Occasionally perform seated work, use a telephone, reach/work above shoulders, perform work which require light/fine grasping, and/or lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 10-40 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
- Rarely climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), perform desk-based computer tasks, operate hand and/or foot controls, write by hand and/or sort/file paperwork or parts.
- May rarely use a jackhammer or trenching machine.
- Maybe exposed to noise greater than 80db TWA.
- May be exposed to allergens, pollens, dust, fertilizers and pesticides.
- Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
