Position
We seek an outstanding scholar and committed teacher who will establish an innovative and inclusive research and teaching program in Engineering Geology, complementing existing departmental strengths and bridging the earth sciences and engineering field, particularly geological and geotechnical engineering. Candidates should have experience working with various Engineering Geology approaches, including but not limited to seismicity code, subsurface and geomorphic investigations, GPS, and various field survey methods. The successful candidate should have experience in earth structure interactions and recognition and interpretation of natural processes, examining the geological conditions, recognition, prediction, and control or abatement of shoreline erosion, ground subsidence, geological hazards, landslides, earthquake faults, floods, and construction-related design, mapping, and forensics of engineered structures. We expect candidates to show evidence of an existing or developing active, externally-funded, student-centered research program and the ability and enthusiasm to teach introductory-level courses and upper-division/graduate courses in Engineering Geology, emphasizing field and laboratory skills. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, serve on committees, coordinate research and teaching needs with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
