Ideally located on the Pacific Ocean south of Los Angeles and just west of Orange County, Long Beach is the seventh largest city in California. The Assistant City Engineer reports to the City Engineer and manages the Civil Engineering division of the Engineering Bureau, overseeing up to 20 FTEs.
Strong technical expertise in Public Works infrastructure planning, design and/or construction is essential, complemented by strong leadership and project management skills. Building and maintaining a team-oriented environment to consistently deliver infrastructure projects in a timely and cost-effective manner is critically important.
Competitive candidates will offer six years of progressively responsible engineering experience, with at least one year at a Senior Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Traffic Engineer level. Three years of supervisory experience, a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and registration as a Civil Engineer with the State of California required. Master’s degree desirable. Experience in an organization of similar size, complexity, and structure is also desired.
