University of California Irvine
Adoptive Cellular Therapy Lead (Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine)
The Hematology/Oncology Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking candidates for a tenure-track or tenured physician/scientist faculty member with experience and expertise in adoptive cellular immunotherapy of cancer. This position is at the level of Assistant, Associate or full Professor, depending upon the candidate's qualifications, experience, and achievements. The successful candidate will be charged with the development, growth, and leadership of a coordinated cancer cellular immunotherapy program that can be integrated with our expanding, FACT-accredited hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) program, and will be expected to engage in translational and clinical research, clinical education, and limited patient care.
The environment and infrastructure at UCI and UCI Health are ideal for fostering the growth of a cancer adoptive cell therapy (ACT) program. UCI is home to the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC), one of 53 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, and is one of only 23 institutions also holding an NCATS-funded Clinical Translational Science Award. In addition to UCI Medical Center located in Orange, a new $1.3 billion medical center is under construction on the UCI Irvine campus that will include a new 220,000 sq. ft. cancer center and a 144 bed specialty hospital that will be the new home of the HSCT and ACT programs. Additional facilities include a newly opened seven room cGMP cellular production facility. It is anticipated that the ACT program will engage with investigators in the CIRM-funded Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Institute, the UCI Institute for Immunology, the CFCCC, and the clinical investigators of UCI Health.
