Position description
Applicants internal to the UCM Department of Natural Sciences Education who had an appointment in 2022-2023 and apply by the 'Initial Review Date' of 3/1/2023 will be considered prior to all other applicants.
The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2023-2024:
Classroom Management and Interactions
Diversity in Education
Project-based Instruction
Technology in Education
Apprentice Teaching
Other courses as needed.
These pedagogy courses include general education topics combined with a focus on teaching STEM disciplines. The candidate will have opportunities to engage in program building efforts and have an extensive impact on the growth and development of the CalTeach program.
In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, and holding regular posted office hours each week.
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. Advanced degree in STEM, education, or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required. Candidates with experience teaching STEM at the K-12 and the college/university level are preferred.
See Table 15 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $64,329-$181,015 per year.
Appointments for AY 2023/2024 and/or Fall 2023 semester are reviewed in April, and for Spring 2024 semester are reviewed in October. The posting will remain open through February 2024 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.
