Summary:

The Lower School Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering an engaging and developmentally appropriate Spanish language curriculum for students in grades K-2 and 3 to 5. The teacher will foster a love for language learning, encourage cultural appreciation, and build foundational communication skills through immersive, interactive, and student-centered teaching methods.

Responsibilities: 

Instruction & Curriculum Development:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum aligned with the school’s mission, values, and academic goals.
• Utilize immersive, proficiency-based teaching strategies that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Incorporate storytelling, music, movement, art, games, and technology to create an interactive and dynamic learning environment.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning styles and language proficiency levels.

Classroom Management & Student Engagement:

• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports risk-taking in language acquisition.
• Assess student progress regularly and provide meaningful feedback to students and families.
• Maintain high expectations for student behavior, engagement, and participation.

Collaboration & Community Engagement:

• Work closely with grade-level teachers and specialists to integrate Spanish language learning into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school community events.

Other

• Collaborate with faculty and staff in student-facing duties such as arrival/dismissal, recess, and lunch

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Fluency in Spanish and proficiency in English.
• Experience teaching Spanish to elementary-aged students, preferably in a lower school setting.
• Strong understanding of language acquisition principles and best practices for early language learning.
• Ability to create an engaging, student-centered learning environment.

Working Conditions:

• 80% Indoors, 20% outdoors
• Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual operational and other matters
• Occasional requirement to lift more than 30 lbs
• Sit for an extended amount of time
