The Lower School Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering an engaging and developmentally appropriate Spanish language curriculum for students in grades K-2 and 3 to 5. The teacher will foster a love for language learning, encourage cultural appreciation, and build foundational communication skills through immersive, interactive, and student-centered teaching methods.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum aligned with the school’s mission, values, and academic goals.
Utilize immersive, proficiency-based teaching strategies that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Incorporate storytelling, music, movement, art, games, and technology to create an interactive and dynamic learning environment.
Differentiate instruction to accommodate various learning styles and language proficiency levels.
Classroom Management & Student Engagement:
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports risk-taking in language acquisition.
Assess student progress regularly and provide meaningful feedback to students and families.
Maintain high expectations for student behavior, engagement, and participation.
Collaboration & Community Engagement:
Work closely with grade-level teachers and specialists to integrate Spanish language learning into interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school community events.
Other
Collaborate with faculty and staff in student-facing duties such as arrival/dismissal, recess, and lunch
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Fluency in Spanish and proficiency in English.
Experience teaching Spanish to elementary-aged students, preferably in a lower school setting.
Strong understanding of language acquisition principles and best practices for early language learning.
Ability to create an engaging, student-centered learning environment.
Working Conditions:
80% Indoors, 20% outdoors
Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual operational and other matters
Occasional requirement to lift more than 30 lbs
