Become a Senior Dam Safety Field Engineer at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll work with our dedicated Dam Safety Team to protect the Company and the Public by ensuring the safety of SCE’s dams. You will provide field and construction support to ensure that dam safety maintenance and capital projects meet Federal and California regulatory requirements, including all needed work authorizations. You will have direct responsibility for making key decisions in the field independently and if needed provide immediate direction to field personnel on dam safety issues.
The primary work location for this position is either Big Creek, CA or Rosemead, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time in the field.
Key Focus of Role
Field Inspections/ Construction Support – You will work independently to perform field inspections/ construction support for dams and appurtenant structures to ensure compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD), and to investigate and evaluate emergent dam safety issues.
Dam Safety Reports and Briefings – You will prepare critical dam safety regulatory reports and briefings to meet internal and regulatory needs, as well as meet with regulatory agency representatives.
Maintenance Strategies – You will work with planning units and field personnel to develop, implement and lead effective maintenance strategies for individual dams. Evaluate dam safety instrumentation data and provide recommendations for appropriate threshold and action levels.
Dam Safety Subject Matter Expert – You will act as a subject matter expert on a range of dam safety topics and provides guidance on (FERC) and California (DSOD) regulations.
Dam Safety Training – You will provide dam safety training to engineers, hydrographers, civil crew members, operators, managers, and others, as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
Seven or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
Five or more years of experience with Dams and/or Hydropower projects.
Experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) dam safety and inspection regulations.
Experience with applicable civil engineering codes, standards and best practices.
Experience and ability to independently review and validate design calculations, drawings, specifications and work plans for civil construction projects.
Experience and knowledge of dam safety engineering best practices.
