Position Information: The full salary range for the Director of Occupational Safety and Environmental Program is $100,100 - $190,500 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $162,012.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of EH&S, the Assistant Director, Occupational safety and Environmental Program performs and oversees work of considerable complexity, in developing, implementing and managing effective programs within the radiation/laser safety, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, ergonomics, and environmental compliance purview.
As the Radiation Safety Officer, represents the UCR radiation safety program at local campus, UC systemwide and professional organizational meetings and conferences. Works directly with local and state regulatory agencies in matters related to radiation safety. Using experience, forward thinking, analysis and leadership skills to provide effective outcomes to serve the division and institution.
In addition, provides supervision, direction and mentorship to subordinate staff. Maintains up to date knowledge of regulatory requirements for regulated waste management: hazardous waste and environmental programs (air, water, remediation), industrial hygiene programs not limited to IAQ, mold, asbestos, hazardous building materials, regulated carcinogens, and general safety programs including building and construction safety, fall protection, theatre safety, shops, hot works and confined space. Actively participates in the evaluation, development and improvement of EH&S systems to maintain compliance, improve efficiency and measure performance. Ensures internal controls, safety procedures and protocols are maintained in all facets of responsibility. Provides additional support to the division as necessary.

Educational Requirements
Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Required
BS or MS in Health Physics or other engineering/science-related discipline (preferred) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience with extensive coursework in health physics.

8 - 13 years of related experience.

Previous supervisory/managerial experience.

Experience in managing a radiation safety program at an academic institution

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of EH&S technical requirements, logistics, materials and operations, rules, regulations, and laws.
Good management skills to effectively lead and direct subordinate staff who are assigned duties in different programs; skills to effectively integrate several highly regulated subject and program areas.
Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including political acumen and skill to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies and senior management.
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement EH&S projects/programs.
Solid skills to appropriately and efficiently respond to and direct the response to emergencies and critical situations, including follow-up evaluation and critique of response efficacy; recommend, develop, and implement changes to emergency response as required.
Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within budget and time constraints.
Advanced or expert knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards, guidelines and, as appropriate, recommend organization policy.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced skill in mentoring or overseeing the work of other EH&S technical and professional staff.
