The LEAP Program
The LEAP Program is a bachelor's degree program specifically designed for current and former professional dancers, with students across the country. This course will be taught remotely through distance learning over the 2025 Summer Term.

Responsibilities
The LEAP Program at Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach Art and the Practice of Math remotely for Summer of 2025 from June 2 through August 18. The successful candidate must be able to work in a highly collaborative and culturally diverse learning community, and will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated and expressed by its Liberal Arts, Catholic and Lasaillian traditions.
Course Description: A reflective examination of basic mathematical ideas and patterns. Through participation in the discovery and development of mathematical ideas the student will view the subject as a vehicle for human creativity. The course traces the historical and contemporary role of appropriate mathematical topics.
Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Appreciate the beauty of mathematical ideas and know about the lives of intellectuals whose
imagination pushed forward the boundaries of mathematical knowledge.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of some applications of mathematics in the real world: politics, art, etc.
3. Use mathematical tools to solve a variety of problems.
4. Think logically and critically about the mathematical information that abounds in our society.
5. Distinguish between valid and invalid arguments. Analyze the logical steps in a model mathematical
proof.
6. Discuss and argue about mathematical ideas that appear in literature.
7. Communicate mathematical ideas using appropriate symbols and vocabulary.
8. Construct new knowledge towards applying mathematical principles to professional career
Qualifications - Required
-An advanced degree in Mathematics (MA, MS, or other); Doctorate or other terminal degree preferred
-Teaching experience with adult learners/non-traditional undergraduate student populations
-Teaching experience with distance learning pedagogy including proficiency with synchronous and asynchronous classroom participation, assignments and student learning assessment
-Experience with and commitment to student-centered teaching and discussion-style pedagogies
Qualifications - Preferred
Successful candidates must be able to engage and support students of color, women and people outside of the gender binary, returning students, and other underrepresented groups, and will be interested in participating in initiatives that aim to increase equity and inclusivity in the educational endeavor.

Salary: $7,447 - $10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
